This week - Basic economy

December 02, 2019 - Monday noon

I wasn't able to get much done that last weekend - but I'm finally back to it now. It turned into a 2 week break, longer than I wanted! It feels good to be back at it.

I showed the game to a couple friends and got some helpful feedback. The current control system is confusing. Selection and camera movement are one and the same, the camera will lock on to some things once you get close enough; players then try to scroll the map but aren't able to. Ways to fix this could be:

  1. More noticeable that the camera has locked
  2. Short zoom tutorial
  3. Auto locking optional, tap to select and lock

Coming up this week -- Basic economy

I'm most excited this week about getting a simple economy up and running. I won't be able to simulate a lot of things that I'd like to for now, just some simple transactions. I'll leave price adjustments out of this week's goals.

The idea is simple - residents are able to see that their house needs some more groceries, find a place to get them, go purchase them, and carry them back home. Stores also need to be able to purchase groceries from farms - for this buildings need to be able to assign Task's to workers. For a grocery store, this will just be finding a farm to buy from.

Primaries:

  • Residents can shop
  • Production/consumption of resources
  • Buildings can assign tasks

Secondaries:

  • Improve placeholder graphics
  • Sketch out UI
  • Restructure updates
